Spouse of Detained Member of Georgian Party Fired from Work

June 30, 2011

The leaders of Georgian Party visited Khvicha Macharashvili’s family in Gori. The latter has been imprisoned under the charge of formation of illegal armed group.

Sozar Subari, Erosi Kitsmarishvili and Sopio Khorguani found out that on the second day after Khvicha Macharashvili’s detention, his wife was fired from work. As Eka Macharashvili states she worked in the commercial entity – bakery Tkbili Samkaro (sweet world) and took care of her family by the received salary.

“The leadership of bakery had no problem with me. When Khvicha was detained, the owner told me that he was forced to fire me. He is not a bad person but it seems like he was threatened that if he did not fire me, they would close the bakery,” – stated Eka Macharashvili with the leaders of Georgian Party.

She spoke in detail how the search was conducted in her house.
“18 policemen broke in the house at midnight. I was pleading to give me some time to get dressed. The policemen locked me in the bedroom and started searching the apartment. I asked them to have a neighbor present at the search but they refused. Then they “discovered” the gun in the storehouse where they planted it. Since they did not have a witness, the person who conducted the search signed the protocol. I asked him not to touch the gun and said that if it really belonged to my husband there should be finger prints on it and they might have erased it, but nobody listened to me,” – noted Eka Macharashvili who stated that her house was under constant surveillance.

Eka Macharashvili also states that when she saw her spouse at the trial it was visible that he was beaten and his teeth were broken.

“Desovietization is not just taking down the Stalin monument. Arresting innocent person, planting guns and then firing his spouse, mother of three children is exactly restoration of Soviet Union. This is Saakashvili’s justice and going back to Soviet Union. It is a shame for a Gori resident to go in this bakery tomorrow and buy the product there! Shame to the coward owner of the bakery! Would not he prefer to close down the bakery than to fire mother of three children for no reason?” – stated Sozar Subari.
