Media Palitra releases statement about detention of photo reporters

July 8, 2011

Media Palitra has released a statement about the detention of photo reporters – Giorgi Abdaladze, Irakli and Natia Gedenidzes, and Zurab Kurtsikidze.

‘We want to underline that Giorgi Abdaladze, Irakli and Natia Gedenidzes worked for the Media Palitra at different times. We know them as professionals and staunch people of their county.

Irakli Gedenidze has shot events of April 9, Abkhazian and Samachablo wars, the civil war of Georgia, the Rose Revolution and famous developments in Adjara.

Giorgi Abdaladze took photos during the Russia-Georgia war, putting his life in danger. The photos moved the world and showed the tragedy of our country to everybody.

The photos of the above-mentioned photo reporters show the hardest and happiest moments of the recent history of Georgia. Their detention for espionage astonished us.

We are especially concerned about lack of concrete accusations against the detainees. The situation is getting vaguer by making the case Top Secret.

We demand publicity of real reasons of their detention and transparency of investigative procedures”, the statement says.
