Gogi Gvakharia: “President Shall Apologize to Tamar Amashukeli”

President of Georgia shall apologize to Tamar Amashukeli- Cinema critic Gogi Gvakharia stated in his interview to the radio-program Résumé of the Radio-Station “Palitra”. He said Amashukeli was more insulted with the statements of the president than he.

“I was kind of dessert in his statement and I think the president shall apologize to Tamar Amashukeli. His populist speech was not a surprise to me but the president shall set better examples to his population and should not curse his people. “Alas to your parent” is continuation of the general situation of the country,” said Gvakharia.

The cinema critic noted that in fact the article was about completely different issue and the government should have been pleased with it.

“The article was about fraud melodramatic reality in our life and the author wrote about protest demonstrations, part of opposition parties and youth whose participation in the protest rallies look very fraud. They act like actors on the stage and in fact they do not worry about the current situation,” said Gvakharia.

Gvakharia is also surprised with the fact that the presidents participate in the opening ceremonies of hotels. He said it is very strange and the fact again demonstrates that we live in a village.

“He [president] mentioned Nice. Can you imagine that President Sarkozy attends opening ceremony of any hotel and even more, he makes speech at that ceremony? I know that our president will get offended with it but this fact once again proves that we live in a village. Georgia is a small province where roads were rehabilitated but provincialism remained,” said Gvakharia.

At the opening ceremony of the Hotel Sheraton in Batumi, Mikheil Saakashvili read a passage from Tamar Amashukeli’s article in the magazine “Hot Chocolate” and from Gogi Gvakharia’s blog where ongoing constructions in Georgia were criticized; among them reconstruction activities in Agmashenebeli Avenue and Rike.

“A color magazine of short circulation wrote – who wants your chichi architect bijouterie. I personally refuse to visit Signagi to see that chichi – to this statement I have only one reply – Alas to your parent! I am not speaking about the mental abilities of the author, it is classic model of a slave of Russia who believes that we are the most backward, ugliest, most egregious nation in the world,” said the president.

Cinema critic, blogger of the Radio Liberty Gogi Gvakharia was also criticized by the president.

“An intellectual wrote short time ago – on the weekends it is impossible to park a car near the Rike Park. In the evening of Friday the entire territory, Metekhi Bridge, Peace Bridge, the new park and Abanotubani was overcrowded. I cannot understand what they were doing there together with their children. Why did those young people go there? They were strolling like my parents were strolling in the Rustaveli Avenue; I fully understand them-they had nothing else to do. I cannot understand why people love walking. I cannot understand what the people are pleased with – they will never understand it,” said the President.
