Lonely Old Person Lost Social Allowance

September 7, 2011

Social Agency seized social allowance from Maria Karaketova, 89, resident of Zhinvali small town in Dusheti district. Karaketova lives alone in a one-room flat in the four-storied residential house. Her only income is her pension 87 GEL.

“They seized my allowance a year ago. Since then I have trying to find justice but in vain. That social allowance was a serious aid for me. I have been trying to find out the reason of seizing my allowance but nobody explains it to me,” said Maria Karaketova.

Head of Dusheti district service office of the Social Agency Vladimer Chonkadze told the ICMM that agents repeatedly evaluated the conditions of Maria Karaketova on August 18, 2011. “As a result of the re-evaluation, 62 660 points were granted to her. Consequently, she cannot receive social allowances with those rating but can receive medical insurance police,” said Chonkadze.

Social agent Imeda Arabuli, who evaluated Maria Karaketova’s social-economic conditions, said she is not poor, she is extremely impoverished person.

“I personally visited her in Zhinvali and examined her family. She is not poor, she is extremely impoverished person. We cleared up that during previous evaluation she could not show electricity bulls to a social agent and orally told him that she used electricity of 5 GEL per month. So, the high rating points were granted to her based on this data,” said the social agent.

According to the Social Agency, currently they cannot change anything. They can re-evaluate the family only next year.
