Peasants in Dusheti District Displeased with Hybrid Corn

September 12, 2011

Peasants living in Dusheti region are displeased with the hybrid type corn taken as a harvest. As Jumber Pridonashvili from Sulikiant settlement stated to Mtskheta-Mtianeti Information Center, he planted 10 kg hybrid type corn at half of the hectare. The corn could not endure the drought and he would be lucky to get 10 sacks of corn.

“I dug the land three times. I added some saltpeter as well. I cultivated the land but in vain. I lost money and wasted the land. I had no harvest. I could have had better harvest. I became ridiculed by the state,” – states Jumber Pridonashvili.

According to the statement of Dusheti municipality deputy Governor Manana Narimanidze, American corn has been planted at 53.5 hectare land. The local government assumes to harvest approximately 9-12 hectare corn at 1 hectare.
