Bar Association To Hold Protest Rally on September 26

September 19, 2011

The Georgian Bar Association intends to launch large-scale demonstrations to protest institutional prosecution of Georgian lawyers. Chair of the Association Zaza Khataishvili announced about it at the today’s briefing.

Khatiashvili said, the special session of the commission for lawyers’ rights took place on September 16 where they discussed issues related with arbitrary detention of lawyer Tariel Murmanashvili. Khatiashvili added the lawyer is prosecuted because of his high-quality professionalism and won trials.

The Chair of the Bar Association said the prosecution of the lawyers has acquired unprecedented scales in Georgia. Despite huge support from international organizations, Georgian lawyers are still terrorized; their and their clients’ rights are permanently breached.

According to Khtaishvili, the lawyers will hold protest demonstration near the Tbilisi City Court at 5:00 pm on September 26.
