Police Refusing to Issue Information on Official Statistics on Robbery

September 28, 2011

The facts of stealing cattle and grapes from the vineyards have increased lately in Kakheti. According to Kakheti Information Center, for the past month 50 cases of stealing cattle and harvest have occurred in the regions of Gurjaani and Lagodekhi.

Fourth horse has been stolen from 78-year-old Zurab Sadunashvili from the village Chandari of Gurjaani region.

“Three days ago, when I came out of the house I could not see my horse. After an hour I found it in my neighbor’s yard. It was tied by a rope and I thought he untied himself. The next night the horse and milk-cow were both stolen. This is the fourth time they stole my horse. I addressed the police after each fact of stealing, but they could not uncover any case,” – Zurab Sadunashvili stated to Kakheti Information Center.

Horses were stolen from two more families several days ago. Grape harvest has been taken from four families.

Kakheti Information Center was interested in the official statistics on robbery in Kakheti region for the year of 2011. Kakheti Main Regional Department of Ministry of Internal Affairs stated that the requirements of freedom of information have no force over the police.
