Debris of Anaklya Bridge Are Now Searched in the Sea

October 3, 2011

500-meter Anaklya-Ganmukhuri Bridge, opened by the President Mikheil Saakashvili, was taken away by storm.

Local inhabitants reported to the MediaNews that bridge details are looked for in the sea by special equipment.

The locals said the storm destroyed only part of the bridge because it was deconstructed on the next day of its opening ceremony and one part was taken to Svaneti.

Local inhabitants allege that the bridge was provisionally constructed because the President ordered to promptly build the bridge for the time when Anaklya is declared as a resort town.

“The bridge was built in a hurry and for visual effect; so no protection activities were carried out. On the next day, it was deconstructed and part of it was taken to Svaneti for the new project. Here, they started building from the beginning. The storm took the debris of the old bridge. Now, they are looking for the details in the sea,” the locals reported to the MediaNews.
