Opposition Movement Informed President Sarkozy about Human Rights Violations in Georgia

October 5, 2011

“Opposition Movement” reported the French President Nikola Sarkozy about human rights violations in Georgia.

Irma Inashvili from the Opposition Movement told the Interpresnews that Giorgi Popkhadze, who is their ombudsman in European institutions, left corresponding materials in the secretariat of the President Sarkozy several days before.

She clarified that the materials are about the events of May 26, 2011 and other facts of human rights violations in Georgia. They also handed a list of 100 political prisoners among whom are Tsotne Gamsakhurdia, Merab Ratishvili, Vakhtang Maisaia and Omar Kutsnashvili.

Inashvili said the materials were prepared by the Opposition Movement and Former Political Prisoners for Human Rights.

Before that, French senators had already handed the same materials to Sarkozy; relatively the French President was already informed about human rights violations, issues concerning political prisoners and May 26 events in Georgia.

According to Inashvili, French senators had met representatives of the Opposition Movement in the Senate of France and received materials from them.
