Eka Beselia – Tamaz Tamazashvili Detained Due to Current Political Processes

October 17, 2011

Bidzina Ivanishvili’s lawyer Eka Beselia said the former head of the Kakheti regional police department Tamaz Tamazashvili was arbitrarily detained. She said Tamazashvili was detained due to current political processes in the country and they will address to the fact by all means.

“Firearm was planted on Tamazashvili and it became reason for his pre-trial detention. Lawyers are not involved in the case,” said Beselia.

On October 12 Information Center of Kakheti reported that law enforcement officers detained Tamaz Tamazashvili in Tbilisi and it might be connected with businessman Bidzina Ivanishvili. Tamazashvili’s son-in-law – Irakli Garibashvili is head of Bidzina Ivanishvili’s Foundation.

On October 12, the ICK clarified that in parallel to Tamazashvili’s detention, Irakli Garibashvili’s father Tariel Garibashvili was dismissed from work; he worked as authoritative representative of Tsiteltskaro territorial entity in Dedoplistskaro district.

Although the ICK petitioned to the MIA and Chief Prosecutor’s Office several times, no comments have been made about Tamazashvili’s detention yet.
