Public Assembly Blames the Government In Detention of Their Supporters

October 27, 2011

Public Assembly blames the government in detention of their supporters. The statement of the executive board of the PA states that the government continues terror against their activists.

According to the opposition political party, on October 24, the court sentenced their activist Zurab Khutsishvili to eight-year-imprisonment for the alleged purchase-possession of narcotics.

According to the PA, about 40 their supporters have been detained for various charges so far; 22 of them were sent to prison; others are waiting for the conviction. The detainees are under serious oppression in order to get their confession statements.

“Although the government fights Public Assembly with the terroristic methods that are common for them – like detention of our supporters and deprivation of the party properties, the Assembly will realize its principles and democratic amendments will be carried out in the country.

In addition, the PA calls upon the diplomatic corps accredited in Georgia and human rights organizations to respond to the intimidation facts of our supporters,” the statement reads.
