Ankvab Does Not Agree with the Criticism of Human Rights Defenders

October 28, 2011

De-facto president of Abkhazia Aleksandre Ankvab met representatives of the Human Rights Watch - Ria Novosti reported about it.

Ankvab said he did not agree with the critical remarks of the human rights organization about violation of human rights in Gali district.

“Mostly, the remarks of the human rights organization are impartial. Nowadays, criminal situation in Gali district is not tenser than in other regions of Abkhazia,” said Ankvab.

Ankvab did not agree with the conclusion of the human rights organization which stated that process of issuing Abkhazian passports in Gali district has discriminative character.

The situation of healthcare system in Gali district was another topic of the meeting.

Ankvab said the authority pays as much attention to the hospitals in the district as in other districts.

During the meeting, the de-facto president said that many international organizations receive unreliable information about the situation in Gali district.

The international human rights organization Human Rights Watch carried out monitoring activities in Gali district in July of 2011.
