Eka Beselia: “Court Shall Annul Illegal Stripping Citizenship from Ivanishvili”

November 4, 2011

Lawyer of the businessman Bidzina Ivanishvili Eka Beselia again commented about stripped of Georgian citizenships from Ivanishvili and his spouse Ekaterine Khvedelidze.

“The court shall endure the oppression and annul the illegal decree on suspension of the citizenship. The case of Ekaterine Khvedelidze is larger burden for the government. She already held citizenships of France and Russia when President of Georgia granted Georgian citizenship to her. Despite that, her citizenship was suspended based on the same decree as in Ivanishvili’s case; it is not justice,” Beselia told the Interpresnews.

According to the lawyer, Khvedelidze obtained passport of French Citizenship in February of 2004; she travelled to Georgia with that passport; later, the President granted double citizenship to Khvedelidze.

“The Court shall annul the act because we can provide documents to prove it,” said Eka Beselia.

According to her, the administrative suit was already filed to the Court and Bidzina Ivanishvili’s party is waiting for the trial.

“The Court shall endure the political oppression and annul the President’s decree on suspension of the citizenship. We meet diplomats to gain their support and it should have some influence over the government,” said Eka Beselia.
