Students’ Charity

November 7, 2011

Students’ organization “Students Towards Progress” held charity action “Students Art” during Tbilisoba celebration with participation of students of Art Academy. Art-works were exhibited and sold during the event.

On November 3, students bought hygiene items and sweats for the charity humanitarian association “Beteli” with the money earned from the sale of paintings, sculptures, handmade jewelry and other works.

Director of the Beteli Liana Chopliani clarified that Beteli is ancient Jewish name of the God. The shelter of elderly people “Beteli” was founded in Tbilisi in 2005. The shelter hosts 43 old people now; among them are IDPs from Abkhazia and Tskhinvali and one refugee from Chechnya. The shelter gets funds mostly from religious organizations from abroad.

Although Beteli is comfortable and there old people have better conditions than in other shelters, they still have some problems.

The founder of the NGO Students towards Progress Amiran Lapachidze promised the old people the students will assist the shelter in resolution of their problems.
