USAID Funded Twelve More Non-governmental Organizations

November 15, 2011

USAID funded 12 more Georgia based non-governmental organizations. The ceremony of awarding the grants was held on November 14 in the Hotel Sheraton Metekhi Palace during the forum on judiciary system.

USAID representative Herbert Bowman told the Interpresnews that the total grant budget was three million USD which will be spent on the projects about advocacy and free legal aid.

“Citizens will receive free legal aid; as for grants allocated for advocacy projects, the purpose of those projects is various – the grantees are entitled to apply to the Supreme Council of Justice and advocate transparent appointment of judges and assist the judiciary system to make information public. One of the grants aims to promote business development in order to eradicate problems in tax payment and to protect the entrepreneurs’ rights,” said Bowman.

The following organizations received grants: US Trading Chamber in Georgia; Article 42 of the Constitution; Association “Sachino”; Agency for Civic Development; Lawyers for Independent Profession; Association for Small and Medium Business, Human Rights House Tbilisi, Institute for Development of Freedom of Information; Institute of Democracy; General Public Movement “Multinational Georgia,” Racha-Lechkhumi and Kvemo Svaneti Self-Governmental Resource Center and Lawyer for Tbilisi Residents.
