Free Democrats Protest Detention of Team Member

November 24, 2011

Free Democrats protest the detention of deputy chair of the Free Democrats Fraction in Senaki municipal board Revaz Khulordava. On November 23, deputy chair of the Free Democrats Thea Tsulukiani held a press conference in the central office of the political party and said Khulordava’s detention had political motives.

According to Tsulukiani Khulordava was detained in Tbilisi on November 20, 2011. Then he was taken to Zugdidi and there, on November 22, Judge Irakli Abshilava at the Zugdidi district court sentenced him to pretrial imprisonment.

“Revaz Khulordava was accused of wounding a man in the place where he was not at the moment of incident. Victim Davit Mgaloblishvili was wounded in the family of Senaki resident Berulava on September 15, 2011; Revaz Khulordava had left the house at 8:30 pm together with one more guest Robert Shalamberidze. Mgaloblishvili was wounded after 10:00 pm because the ambulance was called at 10:30 pm. Having left the house of the Berulavas, Revaz Khulordava met initially Izolda Chitava, then Gia Khoshtaria and a shop assistant – wife of Revaz Zarandia, at different places. Afterwards he went home and bought food in Dali Chiatava’s shop on his way home. His wife and niece Anano were at home. Next morning, he went to work and the law enforcement officers remembered that Khulordava was the perpetrator only two months later,” said Tsulukiani.

She added that the Belurava’s family did not accuse Khulordava in the accident. Berulava’s relative Temur Lutidze is mentioned in case materials who wanted to travel to Abkhazia and he might already be there.

Tsulukiani claims it is political revenge against Khulordava as he criticized the local authority for corruption and unreasonable expenditure of the district budget.

Thea Tsulukiani said the local authority was eager to compel Khulordava to leave Free Democrats because it could cause dismissal of the fraction and subdue of one more critical opinion.

Tsulukiani suggests Senaki resident Berulava and his guest Tsuleiskiri to publicly announce who really wounded Davit Mgaloblishvili. “I would like to call on investigator Nino Kvaratskhelia and Roland Akhalaia, who gives instructions to her, to find out where Temur Lutidze is hiding and who has supposedly wounded Mgaloblishvili. Akhalaya should also investigate why Belurava and Tsuleiskiri were beaten during interrogation in order to make them to “denounce” Khulordava. However, they did not do it and did not make wrong testimonies,” said Tsulukiani.

In addition to that, Tsulikiani strictly criticized Judge Irakli Abshilava at the Zugdidi district court and suggested him to take training course with the Free Democrats. She said Irakli Abshilava took a judgment on another accused, changed his name into Khulordava’s name and concluded that Khulordava was to be sent to pretrial detention.
