MIA Justified 2/3 of Journalists’ Suit Victimized during May 26 Dispersal

December 13, 2011

Trial was held on the case of journalists victimized during the dispersal of May 26 protest demonstration.

Tamar Kordzaia from the Georgian Young Lawyers’ Association told the News Agency “Pirveli” that the MIA found 2/3 of the suit fair.

“The MIA found the suit of the journalists regarding the injury of their health fair; the MIA also partly justified the suit about the damage of the equipment. The reimbursement of the material damage caused by losing cell phone of the journalist Nato Gogelia remained arguable as well as the suit of the Radio Center “Plus” concerning May 19 fact,” said Kordzaia.

She added that the final verdict will be passed on December 26.

Seven suitors – Netgazeti, newspaper GuriaNews, Ltd Newspaper “Batumelebi”, Ltd “Chokhatauri’s Matsne,” Ltd “Akhali Ambebi”, and Ltd RadioCenter Plus appealed against the Georgian Ministry of Internal Affairs in July of 2011.

Journalists and media organizations request the MIA to reimburse their damage caused by health injury and loss of equipment (5 500 GEL).
