Vedzatkhevi and Okruani Isolated for Two Months

December 22, 2011

Vedzatkhevi and Okruani villages in Dusheti district have been isolated from the environment for two months. The landslide has destroyed the road linking the villages with the town.

Vedzatkhevi and Okruani villages are located 12 kilometers away from Dusheti. About 20 families live in both villages. Their houses, plots and mow-fields are located in the landslide zone. Several houses were already destroyed; some of them are damaged and dangerous for life.

Eliso Gogochuri from Vedzatkhevi told the Information Center of Mtskheta-Mtianeti that homeless people made wooden huts and they sheltered them.

Davit Inashvili from Vedzatkhevi said it is impossible to live in the village because life is difficult there; one day the landslide can bury huts and people under the ground.

The villagers said the local officials strictly rebuked them for having made comments with the ICMM’s journalists. In addition to that, the Social Agency ceased social allowances for the Vedzatkhevi residents in such a difficult situation.
