Veteran of 2008 War Threatened With Imprisonment

December 30, 2011

Veteran of the 2008 armed conflict Khvicha Shakarishvili blames the representatives of the Adjara Healthcare Ministry in threatening him. Shakarishvili stated about it in the program “Dialogue” of the TV-Channel 25.

Shakarishvili said he had met the minister of healthcare of Adjara Autonomous Republic Temur Gabaidze several times who had promised to help him. However, the officials of the ministry threatened him with detention.

Khvicha Shakarishvili: “I even petitioned to Levan Varshalomidze, chair of the Adjara Government but they said he does not have time for me. I visited the healthcare ministry several times. Last Friday I was waiting for the minister and somebody, I think he was deputy minister, threatened me: “Unless you stop complaining, we will call police and ask them to detain you.”

The Minister Temur Gabaidze denied the fact and said he had met Shakarishvili several times. “It is nonsense. He can come here any time. Representatives of pension and expertise bureau will gather and find the way to assist that person.”

Medical commission will repeatedly examine Khvicha Shakarishvili, who is disabled and veteran of 2008 war. He might receive status of second group disabled person and his pension as a veteran might increase from 84 to 129 GEL. Khvicha Shakarishvili has contusion and brain trauma.
