Strange Taxes in Georgia – People Sponsor Government in Hardship

January 31, 2012

Rubbish attached to electricity, switched off electricity because of unpaid water and cleaning bills, fee for the emergency service discharged from the account of the cell-phone – it is not full list of new tax systems adopted in 2010, 2011 and in 2012. Experts state the authority has unlimited fantasy.

Citizens protest each initiative of the government with new topics in social networks.

The world history remembers many paradoxical, absurd and sometimes funny taxes in different epochs and countries – payment for wearing hat and beard, for the usage of salt, for the discontent with the government, for peaceful life and even for the life in general; those weird taxes were created to withdraw money from population. However, expert Davit Narmania said the Georgian government has invented the most outstanding taxes.

Various researches prove that states introduce strange taxes when the country copes with economic hardship. Although the Georgian government does not admit the crisis, experts believe the best sponsor for the government in critical situation is population.
