Adjara Prosecutor Does Not See a Citizen

January 31, 2012

Lela Abesadze has been trying meeting with the prosecutor of the Adjara Prosecutor’s Office for several months already. Although the prosecutor’s office has fixed reception time for citizens, the prosecutor has met Abesadze yet.

Abesadze said she is refused to see the prosecutor without any explanations. “The Adjara Prosecutor’s Office, in particular Prosecutor Gongadze was put in charge of my case in September, 2011. When I inquired about the ongoing process, Gongadze forwarded me to coordinators. Afterwards, I registered in the queue to see Prosecutor Gocha Parulava but have not managed to meet him yet.”

The Human Rights Center tried to call the contact-numbers from the official website of the Adjara Prosecutor’s Office (+995 32) 405 613 but it was busy all day long.

Lela Abesadze alleges that the head of Levan Varshalomidze’s [head of Adjara Government] security service Vakhtang Kazazishvili physically assaulted her.

Abesadze states the incident occurred on August 21, 2011 in Kazazishvili’s room in the office of the Adjara Government. “He was shouting at me and blamed me in insulting him. He wanted to assault me and I went towards the window. He was beating me in the knees and thighs. His driver looked into the room and [Kazazishvili] told him to take me to the forest and bound to the tree. I was shocked to hear it.”
