The US Department of State launched website on the US-Georgia Strategic Partnership Commission. The site presents important information on the work of the Commission, including statements from senior U.S. and Georgian policy-makers.
According to the press release of the US Embassy in Georgia, the website also presents information on the efforts of the bilateral working groups on democracy; defense and security; economic, trade, and energy issues; and people-to-people and cultural exchanges.
According to the US Embassy, senior U.S. and Georgian officials lead annual working group meetings to review commitments, update activities, and establish future objectives; the website will outline publicly the commitment of both governments to make concrete progress on our mutual goals. This year marks the twentieth anniversary of U.S.-Georgia relations. In the last two decades nearly 45 bilateral treaties and agreements have been signed in the areas of trade, security, agriculture, health, education and culture. More than 5,000 Georgians have travelled to the United States to study on U.S .Government funded programs. In just the last decade, trade between the two countries has grown to account for more than $2.2 billion dollars. Since Georgia gained independence in 1991, the U.S. has provided over $3 billion in foreign assistance, including a $1 billion package of assistance following the 2008 war. This website will serve as a vital repository of information that tracks the further development of US-Georgia relations.
