Tsotne Gamsakhurdia Submitted Third Complaint against Government of Georgia to ECHR

February 7, 2012

The son of the first President of Georgia Tsotne Gamsakhurdia submitted number third complaint to European Court of Human Rights (ECHR) against the government of Georgia.

As the lawyer of Gamsakhurdia Keti Bekauri stated to the news agency Pirveli, number third complaint in the case “Tsotne Gamsakhurdia vs. Georgia” was submitted to Strasbourg Court on December 29th.

According to her, the applicant complains under the article 3 of European Convention (No one shall be subjected to torture or to inhuman or degrading treatment or punishment).

“Earlier we submitted complaints to ECHR for the violation of article 2 (right to life) and article 6 (right to fair trial). They are under the proceedings and at this stage we are going through the communications with the Court. We presented the material and documental evidences. However, case hearings take a long time. We will follow these procedures. As for the number 3rd complaint, we submitted it on December 29th of last year. But we do not know yet whether or not ECHR found the complaint admissible,” – Bekauri stated.

As for the trials held in the past, according to the lawyer, the Supreme Court upheld the decision of Appellate Court which was related to the charge of attempt of bribing a state official.

The son of the first President of Georgia is serving sentence for the offences of attempt of murder, illegal purchase-keeping-carrying of weapon and attempt of bribing a state official.

Georgian judiciary passed 13-year imprisonment sentence based on the aggregate verdicts.
