Organizers of “It Concerns You” to Introduce Package of Changes to the Election Law to International Organizations

Representatives of the NGOs and Media organizations from the campaign “It Concerns You” will introduce the package of drafted changes to the election code to the international organizations and political parties by the end of the week. They submitted their proposals to the parliament 10 days ago.

The organizers of the Campaign told the InterPressNews that on 2 March, a round table will be held at the Sheraton Metekhi Palace where they will speak about restrictions imposed by the law and the package of their proposal which ensures freedom of expression and speech, democracy, right of property and will improve the country electoral environment.

Representatives of diplomatic corps and international organizations missions in Georgia, government, parliamentary and non-parliament political parties, NGOs and media organizations will be invited to the round table. On 2 March, NGOs will present an initiative that will promote pre-election period transparency in the country.

Authors of the proposal welcome the readiness of Parliament of Georgia to discuss the proposals that was reported by news agencies. The Parliament of Georgia is ready to meet the NGOs and discuss their legislative proposals and start dialogue on the issue.

NGOs and media organizations launched a campaign on 13 February “It Concerns You”, aiming at improving election law and pre-election environment. Up to 170 NGOs and media organizations, 1500 individuals signed the petition demanding amendments to election law.

The petition and the package of amendments were introduced to parliament on 17 February.

Organizers of the campaign held informative meetings in Tbilisi and other cities of Georgia last week. Populations were informed about restrictions imposed by law.
