Vano Merabishvili Comments on Solomon Kimeridze’s Case

Police are protecting rights of citizens in villages, towns, streets, and especially in police buildings, - Minister of Internal Affairs Vano Merabishvili said while commenting on Solomon Kimeridze’s case. He added that they are specially constructing transparent police buildings, so that everything to be transparent there.

"As per our preliminary report, an accident occurred in this case. However, it still is an alarming fact. That’s why I decided to introduce new rules. We will make movement and security procedures of any visitor in police buildings more transparent. In the nearest future we will issue a relevant decree the main part of which will be the fact that a head of a department will be personally responsible for fulfillment of new norms. He will be responsible for prevention of accidents and for carrying out monitoring’, said the Interior Minister.

The Ministry of Internal Affairs released a statement on the death of Solomon Kimeridze on 29 February. MIA stated that on 27 February, a criminal case was instituted in Khashuri regional department for burglary.

’Previously convicted suspect Solomon Kimeridze was interrogated by Khashuri regional police. While interrogation he fell from the third floor while going down to the second floor. He fell in the entrance of the first floor and received multiple injuries. Solomon Kimeridze was taken to Khasuri regional hospital. On 28 February, due to fatal trauma, suspect Solomon Kimeridze died. A criminal case has been instituted and the investigation is under way by Shida Karlti and Mtskheta-Mtianeti district prosecutor’s office’, the statement says.
