Trade Union Blames the Government in Hiding Information about Obligation to Amend Labor Code

March 12, 2012

The Trade Union of Georgia blames the government of Georgia in hiding the information about the obligation to amend the Labor Code of Georgia. According to the United Trade Union, during his visit in the USA the chair of the TU Irakli Petriashvili was informed about the January 24, 2012 meeting between the government of Georgia and the US legislative and executive authorities in Washington.

Irakli Petriashvili learned that as a result of their arguments and consultations with the US governmental officials, the Government of Georgia took responsibility to amend the Georgian Labor Code in near future.

“Unfortunately, the government of Georgia did not inform its social partners (Trade Union and Employers’ Association) about the meeting. After the meeting between the US and Georgia governmental officials, where the latter tried to discredit the Georgian Trade Union, the US governmental officials convinced their colleagues from Georgia that the requirements of the Trade Union were fair and requested them not to interfere in their activities,” the statement of the Trade Union reads.

According to the statement, the US state representatives could not hide their astonishment with the leader of the Georgian Trade Union hearing that the Georgian government had not started consultations about the Labor Code and had not informed the Georgian Trade Union about the achieved agreement yet.
