Journalistic Ethic Charter Protests Interference in Journalists’ Professional Activities in Regions of Georgia

March 14, 2012

Journalistic Ethic Charter of Georgia condemns groundless restriction of journalists’ professional activities by the officials of administrative and public agencies, the March 14 statement of the Ethic Charter reads.

“Chamber of Control of Georgia summoned and interrogated activists of political parties in the region of Georgia. Journalists are not allowed to observe the process. The Chamber of Control does not reply to journalists’ questions. The process is conducted in a secret manner while the government verified recent amendments to the Law about Political Unions of Citizens by making the election environment healthier and more transparent. The Journalistic Ethic Charter of Georgia calls upon the Chamber and all responsible persons to stop restriction of journalists’ rights and allow them to properly inform the society about ongoing processes in the regions,” the statement reads.
