Investigation Started on Irakli Alasania’s Party Member

March 26, 2012

Investigation was launched on Sergo Chachibaia’s case, member of the Free Democrat’s Zugdidi office, under the charge of resisting police officers. Chachibaia’s lawyer Guram Kupunia told the journalists in Zugdidi.

According to the lawyer, the police officers claim Chachibaia physically assaulted them but the detainee denies their accusation.

Law enforcement officers detained Sergo Chachibaia yesterday at the petrol-station in Zugdidi. Giorgi Alasania, head of Free Democrats’ Zugdidi office, reported that Chachibaia had an argument with a stranger when two police cars arrived at the place and detained him.

The party representatives responded to Chachibaia’s detention yesterday. Irakli Chikovani, secretary general of the Free Democrats, told Interpresnews that the fact is political revenge and asked human rights organizations to address to this case.
