April 2, 2012

Member of Free Democrats in Sergo Chachibaia was detained in Zugdidi. As the party’s general secretary Irakli Chikovani stated to interpressnews, Chachibaia was detained several hours ago at a parking lot.

According to Chikovani, a stranger walked up to him unexpectedly and verbally assaulted him. Chachibaia states he did not react. However, policemen came right away and detained him.

According to Chikovani, Sergo Chachibaia’s whereabouts are still unknown. “We searched all police departments in Zugdidi. Sergo Chachibaia was nowhere. We addressed the regional police with the request to ascertain his whereabouts,” – Irakli Chikovani noted.

Chikovani who is one of the leaders of the Free Democrats assesses Sergo Chachibaia’s detention as politically motivated. Irakli Chikovani calls on NGOs and international organizations to pay attention to this fact.
