Sopiko Nikolashvili Released under Bail

April 2, 2012

Imposed imprisonment on journalist Sopiko Nikolashvili for the attempted premeditated murder and illegal carriage of weapon was changed into bail and was released from the court room.

“My freedom was the most important for me and at last I am free,” Sopo Nikolashvili said after she left the courtroom. The relatives did not allow her to make other comments.

Nikolashvili’s lawyer Maguli Gvaladze said the accused was released under bail of 5 000 GEL.

“Sopo pleaded guilty and she was released under bail of 5 000 GEL. The family has to pay the money within one month; before that private property will be sequestered,” Maguli Gvaladze said.

Before the accused was released under bail, the Court decided to discuss Sopiko Nikolashvili’s case at the closed hearing.

Former journalist of the newspaper Kakhetis Khma Sopiko Nikolashvili was arrested on January 31. The prosecutor’s office blamed her in the attempted premeditated murder of Giorgi Sibashvili, 23, and illegal carriage of firearm. Giorgi Sibashvili is inspector-investigator of the Kakheti Regional Police Department. The accused served pretrial detention in Rustavi prison.
