Singer Zumba one of the Candidates for GPB Board of Trustees Membership

President MikheilSaakashvili nominated to Parliament the three selected candidates for the members in the Georgian Public Broadcaster (GPB) Board of Trustees.  Singer Zumba (ZazaKorinteli), Director of Artgeni Union, GiviKublashvili and GiorgiJanoashvili are the candidates for the Board of Trustees membership.  Kublashvili is Senior Specialist at Tbilisi Didube-Chugureti District Gamgeoba (Council) and Janoashvili occupies the same position in Tbilisi Vake-Saburtalo District Gamgeoba.

Competition for the vacant position of the Board of Trustees membership was announced after David Aprasidze left the Board at the end of this January.  Aprasidze explained his decision by being hired by the Ministry of Internal Affairs (MIA).

“I have been appointed to the post of MIA Archive Director.  It is a public law legal person, but the conflict of interests would still be present,” David Aprasidze told media.ge.

Competition for the vacant position was announced by Presidential Decree on on 15 February 2012.  Anyone interested could have registered as candidate during one month.  Along with other criteria the competition participants must “be publicly recognized and trusted person; must have higher education and minimum 5 years of professional experience.”

According to MananaManjgaladze, President’s Press-Speaker, only the above listed candidates have applied for the position.

According to the Law on Broadcasting, the competition is announced held if minimum of three candidates apply for it.  According to the same Law, during 30 days after the nomination of candidates by President the Parliament of Georgia votes for the candidates nominated by President by secret ballot.

Last competition for a vacant position in the Board of Trustees of the PBG completed this February.  From the nominated candidates Georgian Parliament approved Natalia Dvali Director of the British House to the given post.
