Babutsa Gordadze Detained in Malaysia Sentenced to 8 Years in Prison

Babutsa Gordadze detained in Malaysia, like Darejan Kokhtashvili no longer faces death penalty. According to the official information released by the Georgian side, today the court decided to sentence Babutsa Gordadze to 8 years in prison, of what she has already served 2 years.

Second detainee, Darejan Kokhtashvili was sentenced to 6 years in prison by the Malaysian court. She has also served 2 years.

Law enforcers detained Darejan Kokhtashvili and Babutsa Gordadze in 2010 for the attempt to bring drug “Metafon” to Malaysia. According to the Malaysian law, this crime is punished by death penalty, hanging.

Afterwards Georgian law enforcers detained Gordadze’s husband, Eldar Davitiani, who was sentenced to 15 years in prison by the court. Eldar Davitiani was accused of the crime under article 260, third part, purchasing and transiting large amount of drugs by the group.
Relatives of Kokhtashvili and Gordadze link the fact with Eldar Davitiani.

Georgian prosecutor’s office and Foreign Department representatives are in Malaysia and they work on the issue of deporting Gordadze and Kokhtashvili to Georgia.
