GPB General Director’s Salary Boosts

From April 1, 2012 the salary of Giorgi Chanturia, Director General of the Georgian Public Broadcasting increased by GEL 975 to amount GEL 6,500. The decision on the salary raise was reached by the GPB Board of Trustees on March 26 following the appeal by the Director General himself.

Reporting to Media.ge the GPB FOI officer said in 2012 the GPB budget amounts to approximately GEL 55mln. Out of the given amount GEL 13 mln has been apportioned for the salaries to be paid to the staff employed at GPB First and Second Channels. Four mln out of 13 will be issued for the TV broadcasting staff. GEL 1 million is meant for the administrative staff.

According to the Georgian Law on Broadcasting the main source of funding for the public broadcaster is state budget. The amount to be received shall be no less than 0.12% of GDP.
