“It Is Illegal to Launch Election Campaign with Similar Methods”

April 17, 2012

Marekh Mgaloblishvili, head of Telavi office of the Georgian Young Lawyers’ Association said the supporters of the opposition political parties have been frequently intimidated in Kakheti region recently.

“Our representatives met the supporters of the opposition parties who were sacked from jobs; namely Zura Tergiashvili and Zviad Kviralashvili. We also met people in Akhmeta who participated in the polls and later faced problems. They are neither members of the Coalition [Georgian Dream] nor any political party.

We were told that more incidents are expected to occur after the Easter Holiday. We are hastily drafting a report to international organizations because their notices to the Government of Georgia are more effective [than ours]. Ivanishvili has not yet established a political party but their supporters are under serious oppression already. So, we cannot predict what will happen when the election is closer. Similar action is completely unacceptable. We try to provide the sacked people with free legal aid,” Mgaloblishvili told the ICK.
