Public Servants Not To Be Obliged to Submit Financial Declarations to Ministry of Finances

April 20, 2012

Public servants will no longer be obliged to submit financial declarations to the Ministry of Finances. Relevant amendments are drafted to the Law about Public Service which the parliamentary committee of procedural issues will discuss today.

The introduction of the draft-law states that financial declarations of public servants had neither tax-paying purpose, nor promoted the transparency, as they were never published.

Consequently, the obligation of the public servant to annually submit financial declaration to the Ministry of Finances is canceled.

Thus, after the amendments go into force, only governmental officials will be obliged to provide financial declarations to Public Service Bureau annually.

The authors and initiators of the draft-law are MPs Zviad Kukava and Andro Alavidze. The bill was initiated in October of 2011 at the parliament.
