After Georgian Dream Comes into Power, Tamazashvili Will Occupy Senior Position in Georgian MIA

Currently detainee Tamaz Tamazashvili, father-in-law of the former head of the Charity Foundation “Cartu”, will be a member of the “Georgian Dream – Democratic Georgia.” Bidzina Ivanishvili said at the office of Georgian Dream about it.

He clarified that Tamazashvili will not be just member of the party, but after Georgian Dream comes into office, he will take one of the senior positions in MIA.

“Trial on Tamaz Tamazashvili’s case is scheduled today; he is father-in-law of Irakli Gharibashvili, former President of the Charity Foundation “Cartu” and who was detained the day after I made a statement about coming into politics”, Bidzina Ivanishvili said.

He said there was a chance to release Tamazashvili if Irakli Gharibashvili had quitted Bidzina Ivanishvili’s charity foundation, though Tamazashvili refused.

“He sacrificed his freedom to our work and when Irakli Gharibasshvili raised the issue with his family that he was ready to resign for the freedom of his father-in-law, Tamazashvili refused him to do it. Tamazashvili will be our party’s member and when we come into power, he will take one of the main positions at MIA, he has relevant experience”, Ivanishvili said.

Ivanishvili declared that the government refused to release Tamazashvili under plea agreement.

“Very often, prisoners are released under plea-agreement. You can kill a man, but if you pay money, you are free after a plea bargain. This is Saakashvili’s court. Tamaz Tamazashvili is the only man for whom the plea bargain didn’t work. The court will make the decision in accordance to Saakashvili’s instructions”, Ivanishvili said.

Irakli Garibashvili is member of the Georgian Dream – Democratic Georgia’s initiative group.
