Victims of Natural Disaster Blame the Authority in Inactivity

May 15, 2012

Heavy rain flooded ground floors and agricultural plots of the inhabitants in Kistauri, Matani and Ojio villages in Akhmeta district.

The victims told the ICK that heavy rain has been flooding their houses and plots for many years already but local authority does not pay attention to them.

“The water flew into our houses at 3:00 am last night. We were watching it and could not stop the flow. The ground floor is completely flooded; our food reserve was also spoiled. It is not first year when our houses get flooded; we have lived in similar situation for four and five years. Nobody has repaired channels to prevent the flood in springs; the authority has never compensated our damage either. Only once they gave coats, rubber boots and stuff like that to us –it was making fun of us. This time, we called the municipal board in the morning but they said officials had guests and cannot arrive here,” the victims told the ICK.
