Political Party for Renewed Georgia Reports Its Member Valeri Gabelia Kidnapped

Head of regional organization of the political party for the Renewed Georgia Lasha Gvasalia reported that his deputy Valeri Gabelia was kidnapped on June 23.

Lasha Gvasalia said at the special press-conference that at about 4:50 pm on June 23 seven persons in plain clothes kidnapped Valeri Gabelia, 65, from Bakhtrioni Street.

Lasha Gvasalia connected the incident with “punishment policy of the government.” He said the government continues persecution of political opponents.

Gvasalia said an investigator from the Special Operative Department got called him and clarified that Gabelia was detained and interrogated as a witness.

Gvasalia said the prediction of Mindia Gulua, international leader of the political party, realized who claimed that mass detention of their party members was planned from June 20 to June 30.

Representatives of the political party for the Renewed Georgia call upon the opposition parties to support them and unify their efforts to protect victims of the government’s oppression.
