Four People Detained in Mereti Village Sentenced to 10-Day Imprisonment

June 27, 2012

Gori district court sentenced four people detained as a result of June 26 incident in Mereti village in Gori district to ten-day administrative imprisonment.

Two of the detainees Davit Bzishvili and Aleksi Kikolashvili are activists of the Georgian Dream; two other – Lasha Chigladze and Aleksandre Odishvili were activists of the National Movement, as the local office of the Georgian Dream reports.

Judge Davit Papuashvili charged all of four under Article 166 of Criminal Code of Georgia [hooliganism]; but he charged Aleksi Kikolashvili under Article 173 of the Criminal Code of Georgia too. After hours-long trial judge sentenced all four detainees to ten-day administrative imprisonment.

Leader of Gori office of the Georgian Dream intend to appeal the judgment today.

Lekso Valiauri of the Georgian Dream recalled that video-evidence provided to the court did not prove guiltiness of Bzishvili and Kikolashvili. So, He stated Judge Davit Papuashvili should not have imposed administrative imprisonment on the activists.

On June 26, Bidzina Ivanishvili’s visit to Mereti village was followed up by physical controversy. Several people were injured.
