Alive Person Inserted among Dead People When Voters’ Lists Were Checked

July 4, 2012

Civil Registration Agency [CRA] inserted Giorgi Mgebrishvili, 86, from Vazisubani village in Gurjaani district in the list of dead people when working on completion of voters’ lists. The old man learned about the incident after he lost pension and his family social benefit.

“My daughter is a single mother with underage child, who needs medical treatment. We lived on my pension and social benefit. When I did not receive this month allowance and pension, we inquired and they said he is dead why should we ask for pension? But, I am alive,” Giorgi Mgebrishvili told ICK.

Head of Gurjaani office of the CRA Ana Gelashvili told ICK the pension is seized based on the death notification which is generally issued by village attorney. She said maybe a person with the same name died in the village and they mixed up. “When we are working on voters’ lists, we remove dead people from it,” Ana Gelashvili said.

Attorney of Vazisubani village territorial entity Malkhaz Solomnishvili said he does not know who had notified the CRA about Giorgi Mgebrishvili’s death.

The Mgebrishvilis are extremely impoverished family. They have already petitioned to the local authority for help but in vain.
