Veteran Member of the National Movement Publicly Tore Party Mandate

August 22, 2012

On August 21, a resident of Sviri village in Zestaponi district Revaz Machitadze, 70, publicly tore the mandate of the National Movement. He had been member of the ruling party since 2003. Machitadze was Sviri village’s representative in the municipal board.

Revaz Machitadze told humanrights.ge: “I have applied to the local government several times and asked them to resolve some problems in the village but they never assisted us. Zestaponi district administration members were sending us with nice words from their office but never kept their promises. I want to apologize to the residents of my village and ask them to forgive me those false promises I had to tell them because of the government’s false statements. I suggest people to wake up and not to believe what we believed for so long time. I am saying goodbye to this party by tearing off this mandate.”

Former representative of the Sviri village publicly tore off the mandate in front of the National Movement’s Zestaponi office.
