Transparency International Speaks about Illegal Deal between Georgia Is Not Sold and the Ruling Party

August 22, 2012

Transparency International –Georgia speaks about the illegal deal between the non-governmental organization Georgia Is Not Sold and the ruling party. As we read in the statement on the web page of Transparency International the NGO Georgia Is Not Sold is a legal entity and the videos which this organization gave to United National Movement free of charge are illegal donations.

“According to paragraph 2 of Article 25 of the Organic Law of Georgia on the Political Unions of Citizens, the material or non-material values received by the party free of charge or at discount/in preferential conditions is considered a donation. According to paragraph 1”a” of Article 26 of the above-mentioned law, political parties are prohibited to receive donation from legal entities”,-is mentioned in the statement.

People in Transparency International believe that the participants should be fined five times the amount of the received/given property according to the measures of the Organic Law of Georgia on the Political Unions of Citizens.

Transparency International Georgia appeals the State Audit of Georgia to study this case and make a corresponding reaction to it. Giga Nasaridze, one of the founders of the organization Georgia Is Not Sold, stated that this organization offers videos on election topics free of charge to any party which shares their position.

Nasaridze added that United National Movement also responded to their proposal and the organization has already given the party the free videos which are broadcasted by some TV channels. Chiora Taktakishvili, the press speaker of the ruling party, confirms the above-mentioned fact.
