Released Elita Burj Lawyers will be met with Solidarity Action by Colleagues

August 27, 2012

According to Zaza Khatiashvili, the chairman of the Georgian Bar Association, today at 22:00, the company Elita Burj’s lawyer Imeda Nikuradze will be released from the Ministry of Internal Affair’s solitary confinement.

Zaza Khatiashvili told Human Rights Center that it’s possible that some provocation might be orchestrated in order to send the illegally jailed Imeda Nikuradze back to prison. That’s why a group of lawyers have decided to stage a solidarity action at 22:00 o clock in front of MIA and meet Nikuradze as he is released. Apart from lawyers, representatives of civil society will also take part in this action.

On August 7, the Elita Burj company lawyer Imeda Nikuradze was taken to an unknown location by people who were dressed in civilian clothes. The next day, his family learned that the lawyer had been arrested and was held in the central building of Tbilisi police headquarters.

On August 8, Imeda Nikuradze was sent to prison for 20 days via an administrative code ruling by Tbilisi city court. He had been charged with obstructing the court bailiff during a raid on Elita Burj on August 6.

On August 9, Human Rights Center disseminated special information on Imeda Nikuradze’s arrest.
