The Norwegian Helsinki Committee has been engaged in development and support of civil society in South Caucasus for a number of years through monitoring of the human rights situation, support of important local initiatives in the sphere of human rights and democracy, as well as advocacy work in the region itself and in Europe. The NHC also has extensive experience in human rights education and conflict transformation work in the Former Soviet Union and the Western Balkans.
We are currently seeking a highly qualified person to be the regional coordinator of the (EU-funded) program “Coalition for trust” in the South Caucasus. The aim of the program is to contribute to building knowledge and trust between people in a region marked by conflict and human rights violations. Activities include education and training, network building, advocacy and activism. We are looking for someone with significant understanding of the administration of non-governmental sector projects involving multiple partners as well as the workings of international politics and institutions. He or she must have the ability to maintain smooth communication and cooperation between multiple partners, gather and systematize sizable information and documentation as well as preparing detailed reports, drawing upon strong administrative and inter-personal skills.
Professional competence requirements
- University degree in human rights, political science, law, conflict resolution or equivalent;
- Documented working experience in management of projects in non-governmental sector;
- Excellent computer proficiency;
- Knowledge of and interest for current developments and challenges regarding human rights and conflict transformation/political situation in South Caucasus;
- Excellent oral and written skills in English and Russian required; knowledge of any of the languages of South Caucasus is an asset;
- Experience from human rights education and ability to carry out human rights education trainings is an asset;
Personal skills and competencies
- Ability to conduct concise evaluation and reporting meeting set deadlines;
- Excellent interpersonal and communication skills;
- Ability and preparedness to travel extensively in the South Caucasus region as well as internationally;
- Thorough understanding of accounting;
- Ability to work independently, systematically, organized and disciplined.
Tasks and responsibilities
- Main task is to function as the communication hub between the regional partners in all South Caucasus countries and territories and the NHC headquarters in Oslo;
- Maintain close contact with the regional partners in South Caucasus regarding trainings, travels, financial transactions and reporting, and evaluate the progress;
- Oversee the smooth flow of information, transactions and reporting between the regional partners and the NHC headquarters;
- Cooperate with regional partners in arranging events and trainings and the larger network meetings;
- Regular and timely reporting to the head office in Oslo, Norway, and compliance with NHC policies and procedures.
