National Movement Staff Member, Who Left Position, Disappears

September 27, 2012

Edisher Sikharulidze,a National Movement staff member and head of  Military Registration, Call-up and Mobilization Service appealed to local representatives of the coalition Georgian Dream. According to this appeal Edisher Sikharulidze left his position and also refused to work in the Nationalist Movement's election headquarters.

Sikharulidze stated that he would hold a press conference where he would reveal how the military commission is involved in election issues and how youths of paramilitary age are being put under pressure. Humanrights.ge has already written about the conference that was held in Guria. All the municipality governors were given concrete instructions and one of them concerned youths of military age. .

Sikharulidze had even fixed a date for the press conference and informed Lela Imedashvili, the Chokhatauri municipality governor, about his decision by phone.

In spite of this, Sikharulidze refused to hold the press conference. His relations allege that the reason is the government’s pressure upon Sikharulidze.

Humanrights.ge tried to contact Edisher Sikharulidze. Members of his family stated even they could not contact him by phone. Sikharulidze’s wife told us that she did not know where her husband was.
