Young People Protested Tearing Off Georgian Dream’s Posters

September 28, 2012

At the approaching Election Day, the political temperature has extremely raised in the country. Much was written about unequal election conditions for political parties. Candidates of the ruling party can place their posters wherever they wish whilst relevant places were not allocated for the majoritarian candidates of the Georgian Dream yet. Moreover, governmental officials do not avoid tearing off already placed posters of the opposition political party.

TV-story of the news agency INFO 9 shows how Chkhorotsku district deputy governor Roman Tolordava is tearing off the poster of Levan Izoria, Georgian Dream’s majoritarian candidate, from the post. He justified his behavior as follows “the post is located in my territory and I do not want to watch the photo of the member of my rival party.”

Youth branch of the Georgian Dream warned him not to go to the political grave together with the current authority because of his behavior.

Demonstrators asked some questions to the former Regional Governor and currently minister of agriculture Zaza Gorozia when he arrived in Chkhorotsku to attend the National Movement’s forum but he did not answer their questions.

Afterwards, young people moved to Chkhorotsku police station where they expressed their solidarity with the detained activist of the Georgian Dream Edem Kvaratskhelia.

On September 8, Chkhorotsku district court found Edem Kvaratskhelia guilty under Article 166 of the Administrative Code and put in prison for 35 days. According to MIA, Edem Kvaratskhelia was attending meeting of the majoritarian candidate of a political party in Naphichkho village where he insulted and physically assaulted journalists of the Samegrelo Media Organization and damaged their camera.
