Voter Took Photo of Ballot Paper in the Cabin

October 1, 2012

Voter Temur Martolik took photo of his ballot paper in Polling Station # 5 in Mtskheta Election District # 27. As soon as observers, HRC observer among them and commission chairman Vakhtang Kipshidze heard sound of photo-camera, they responded to the fact.

Afterwards, commission chairman annulled ballot papers of Temur Martolik and as it was found out he had marked election number 5 of the National Movement on both papers.

Observers asked him why he had taken photo of the ballot paper and Martolik replied he wanted to save his choice as a memory.

After this incident, the chairman called upon the voters in the polling station not to take photos of their ballot papers in the cabin; otherwise their ballot papers will be annulled.

Before the Election Day it was reported that coordinators of the National Movement instructed their supporters, particularly public servants, to take photos of their ballot papers in the cabin after making the choice. Then they had to show those photos to the UNM coordinators to prove that they had really voted for the ruling party.
