Elections under Candlelight

October 1, 2012

Polling process is going on under candlelight in the polling station # 69 in Kutaisi. Electricity supply was switched off at 12:35 and voters have to vote under the candlelight right now.

“Naturally we were worried and immediately called Kutaisi DEC # 59. At first they said electricity supply will be resumed in 10 minutes. Then they said there was some explosion and had no idea when it will be fixed. If electricity does not come in an hour we will ask the DEC to equip us with all necessary equipment. It’s not right to count votes at night under candlelight,” said Ioseb Phakadze chairmen of the PS # 69.

Voters also protest lack of electricity.

“What is happening people?! How can we speak about democracy in our country when elections are held in similar conditions in the 21st century? These kinds of things didn’t happen during Shevardnadze time when electricity supply was off during weeks. Right now we are voting under candle light in the parliamentary capital of the country as current government called it,”-said a voter.
