Elections Were Conducted Through Procedural Violations in Poti Like in Entire Georgia

October 5, 2012

Georgian Dream’s majortiarian candidate Eka Beselia and the Coalition itself won the parliamentary elections in Poti with much preference. On October 2, Eka Beselia held meeting with her voters in Poti Central Stadium to celebrate the victory and thanked them for their support. Before that, Georgian Dream’s election HQ held a briefing to summarize the election results.

Beselia said at the briefing that Georgia already has a new government and Georgian Dream is ready to cooperate with everybody who has not committed a crime. She said she would keep all promises she had given to Poti residents.

Beselia added that everybody had congratulated her with the victory except the National Movement’s majoritarian candidate in Poti. Violations observed during the election process were also discussed during the briefing.

Parliamentary elections were conducted through procedural violations in Poti like in the entire Georgia. Fewer ballot papers were delivered to every polling station. National Movement’s activists were mobilized in the polling stations from the early morning and they agitated and oppression on voters.

Several supporters of the Georgian Dream could find their names in the voters’ lists. Voter Manana Danelia discovered in PS # 8 that somebody had already voted for her beforehand. Eka Beselia was in the PS at that moment and she requested arrival of international observers to see this particular violation in the PS.

Although chairman of the DEC # 70 Vano Kvashilava was in the office, he did not respond to the violation and said it was technical mistake.

Voters were not marked in PS # 18 during 4 hours and on that ground Georgian Young Lawyers’ Association requested to annul the election results in that particular PS. PEC chairman did not satisfy the request and afterwards GYLA filed complaint to the Poti DEC # 70 where they requested to annul the PS election results in accordance to the Article 64 of the Election Code and responsibility of relevant commission members.
