Working on the Draft Amnesty Law Started

October 10, 2012

Working on the draft amnesty law has started – penitentiary minister-to-be Sozar Subari said before his meeting with the acting penitentiary minister Giorgi Tugushi. Subari said it is difficult to say who will enjoy this amnesty.

“Amnesty is not the only solution for discharging the overcrowded prisons. In addition to that we should annul principle of collective punishments and review cases of all arbitrarily imprisoned people,” Subari said.

He added that as a result of annulled collective principle of punishments and changed strict criminal policy we will not have so many prisoners in the country in future.

Sozar Subari also commented about the future Public Defender. He said the ombudsman will be selected after the new parliament meets and discuss this issue in close cooperation with the civil society.
